National Bike to School Day
San Mateo County students are invited to continue the fun and put their cycling skills to use on May 7, National Bike to School Day. Students from over 50 schools in San Mateo County will join children from across the nation in celebration of National Bike to School Day. In San Mateo County, approximately 20,000 students will bike and walk to school alongside parents, teachers, community enthusiasts, and community leaders. Students will walk and bike in celebration of green transportation and streets that supports all modes of travel.
National Bike to School Day will begin approximately 60 to 30 minutes prior to the start of the school day with students, parents and community leaders biking and walking from various meeting locations throughout the county. “National Bike to School Day is a great way to get kids, families, and community members excited about getting exercise, improving air quality, and reducing traffic,” said Daina Lujan, Safe Routes to School Coordinator for the San Mateo County Office of Education. “It is exciting to be part of this growing effort.”
