San Mateo County Truancy Program

San Mateo County Truancy Program

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention states, "Truancy is the gateway to delinquency." Recognizing that most students in San Mateo County have attendance rates of 96% or higher, it was determined that there was a need for a county-wide response to truancy for those students with serious attendance problems.

The San Mateo County Truancy Program is designed to be that response and has been developed by a steering committee representing the 23 school districts, the County Office of Education, the District Attorney's Office, County Counsel's Office, officers of the Juvenile Court, the Probation Department, the Human Services Agency and several police departments.

This program includes an overview with statutory references and uniform documents for use by all districts. Also included are optional forms to be adapted for the use at school sites.
