San Mateo County Office of Education provides programs and services to the County school districts for students with moderate to severe disabilities, ages 0-22. We offer programs and services for students with Autism, Emotional Disturbance, Deaf/Hard of Hearing, Multiple Disabilities and Orthopedic Impairments. Our Related Services staff is a team of highly qualified specialists. District staff make direct referrals for services.

The San Mateo County Office of Education provides special education programs for students whose needs cannot be met solely within their local school district. Approximately 300 students, ages 0-22 are served. The majority of students are served on general school campuses. Programs are provided for students with intensive needs, including severe multiple disabilities, hearing, visual, orthopedic, emotional disabilities or with autism. Infant programs serve children birth to 3 years of age with orthopedic, hearing and/or visual disabilities.
Currently, services are provided to students through the following programs: Early Start Program for Infants and Toddlers, Early Childhood Education, Special Education Services (K-12) and Related Services (RS). RS includes Adapted Physical Education, Assistive Technology, Audiology, Integrated Hearing Impaired and Integrated Vision Impaired, Orientation and Mobility, Vocational Educational Services.
Educational services are provided by special education teachers with the assistance of paraeducators. Students, families and staff are supported by school psychologists and school nurses. Students requiring transportation for classroom attendance are provided with home to school transportation.
