Coalition and Partners

The San Mateo County Office of Education collaborates with partners – and is often the lead entity – on several regional coalitions, programs, and initiatives.

These partnerships span across school districts, community organizations, government agencies, nonprofits, and industry leaders—each contributing unique expertise and resources to support students, educators, and families throughout San Mateo County.

The Big Lift

The Big Lift is a bold collective impact effort that helps San Mateo County students achieve reading proficiency by the end of third grade. Led by the County of San Mateo, San Mateo County Libraries, and the County Office of Education, The Big Lift serves preschool to third grade students from lower income families in seven school districts in San Mateo County to ensure children are reading proficiently by third grade.

Coalition for Safe Schools and Communities

The Coalition identifies and addresses the safety needs of county youth, work across agencies to implement best practices in emergency response and mental health, and support with a legal framework for lawful information-sharing, using a common language. This includes The Big Five.

San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council

The San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council (CCPC) is a state-mandated local council under the shared leadership of the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools.

Peninsula Athletic League

The Peninsula Athletic League is a Central Coast Section (CCS) "Super League" that includes schools geographically located from Atherton to Daly City. Schools are divided into "divisions" or "supplemental leagues" by sport according to the strength of each school's program in that particular sport. It organizes games, tournaments, and recognition for local student-athletes, coaches, and schools.

San Mateo County Creates

The San Mateo County Creates Arts Council is a new initiative to foster collaboration, share best practices, and support strategic arts education planning across the county. Its goals are to build community, support educational arts leadership and strategic arts planning, share best practices, organize county-wide events and collaborations, and provide updates, vision, and best practices for Prop 28/Arts Ed funding.

San Mateo County SELPA

The San Mateo County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) was established to advise parents, school districts, and agencies that provide services to students with disabilities. It is comprised of all school districts in San Mateo County and the County Office of Education, who cooperatively provide a continuum of programs and services for individuals with disabilities from birth to 21 years of age.
