Our Hiring Process
The San Mateo County Office of Education offers employment opportunities for certificated personnel in a variety of areas, including teaching, support services, and administration, as well as classified (non-teaching) positions, including administrative support, accounting, technology, educational support services, and facilities services.

Classified Positions (Teaching or Administrative Services
Credential Not Required)
Under our Merit System hiring procedures, job candidates are screened based on their qualifications to fill positions, and employees are selected through competitive written, oral, and/or performance examinations. Applicants for classified positions should complete an online application.
If you are disabled and require special testing arrangements, notify the Personnel Services Department when you send in your application. A reasonable effort will be made to accommodate your needs.
Candidates who pass all portions of the examination process will have their names placed on an eligibility list in rank order according to their test scores. The supervisor of the vacant position will conduct final interviews from among the top-ranking candidates to make his/her selection. Classified Job Descriptions

Certificated Positions (Teaching or Administrative Services Credential Required)
These positions require applicants to have a teaching or administrative services credential. Applications and supporting materials will be reviewed, evaluated, and considered for an interview. Incomplete or late applications will not receive consideration.
Candidates who receive an offer of employment will be hired contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the following:
- Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks
- Results of a tuberculosis skin test
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Employment physical, when applicable
