Like many organizations, SMCOE uses language that sometimes feels like code words – familiar to some but not to all. Below is a glossary to give all SMCOE staff a common understanding of language. As you encounter words, phrases, or acronyms whose meaning may not be completely clear, please send the Communications team a note at email@example.com. They will be collected and added to the glossary.
Live Well @SMCOE
Guided by the SMCOE Wellness Plan, the Live Well Committee meets biweekly to plan activities and provide information that positively impacts the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and occupational wellness of SMCOE staff. Last year's Live Well activities and projects included Lunch & Learns (where SMCOE staff could learn about Ikigai, sustainability, and meditation, among other subjects), This Is Us and tailgate-themed potluck events, the institution of an updated Jeans Friday policy, posting of tips on physical and mental health care in Connections, and various other pop-up events. In 2020, the Live Well Committee will send a survey to SMCOE staff to find out what kind of wellness-related events and groups they would be interested in joining.
SMCOE hosts a series of “drop-in” events for staff to learn more about SMCOE procedures, develop job-related skills, and gain knowledge to help themselves. Each drop-in consists of a 15-minute presentation followed by time for questions and discussion. No RSVP is required, just drop in! Upcoming Drop-In Academy events will be listed below as they are scheduled.
Lunch & Learns
Lunch & Learns are typically brown bag lunches that provide staff an opportunity to learn something new, build community, and share their knowledge with their colleagues. In addition to the Lunch & Learns on the schedule below, upcoming topics will include One Book, One County, Meditation, and the Census. Interested in hosting a Lunch & Learn event? Contact the Wellness Committee with your proposal.
