The County Office guides San Mateo County educators in serving the whole child, helping them to grow academically, behaviorally, and social-emotionally to reach their highest potential.
To achieve this, the County Office provides guidance and resources in curriculum and instruction, continuous improvement, early learning and preschool to third-grade alignment, environmental literacy, expanded learning, student services, and college, career, and community partnerships. We provide high-quality programs and events that support the development of a well-prepared, diverse workforce, particularly our teacher residency and other credentialing programs.

Curriculum and
Instruction
The Curriculum and Instruction Services department provides comprehensive support to educators, schools, and districts through technical assistance, professional development, administrator coordination, and curriculum implementation guidance.
College, Career, and Community Partnerships
The College, Career, and Community Partnerships team fosters student success by integrating academic, career, and holistic supports from early education through adulthood, with a focus on equity, wellness, and access for historically underserved communities.
Teacher and Administrator Credential Programs
The County Office supports educators in obtaining and clearing their credentials through its Teacher Induction, Teacher Residency, Preliminary Administrative Services Credential, Clear Administrative Services, and Preliminary Career and Technical Education Credential programs.
Early Learning and Care Educators
To support early childhood educators and families in San Mateo County, the County Office provides workforce development, access to equitable and high-quality programs, and community outreach to ensure children from birth to age eight thrive in school and the community.

Environmental Literacy and Sustainability
The Environmental Literacy and Sustainability Initiative team provides support to San Mateo County Schools in prioritizing environmental literacy and integrating environmental sustainability and climate-ready practices across campus, curriculum, community, and culture.

Learning
The County Office supports San Mateo County school districts and community partners in developing high-quality expanded learning programs that provide a safe and supportive learning environment, actively engage students in learning and building skills, and develop youth leadership and voice with an equity lens.
District Improvement and Supports
The County Office plays a critical role in supporting the continuous growth of San Mateo County districts and their schools by reviewing and approving Local Control and Accountability Plans (LCAPs), providing differentiated assistance to eligible districts, and other assessment and accountability services.
Research and Systems Planning
The Research and Systems Planning department enhances educational planning and evaluation across San Mateo County through original research, a centralized grant management process, resource development, guidance in state and federal accountability, and data-driven strategies to promote equitable student outcomes.
Student Services
Safe and Supportive Services serves school districts through engaging, coordinating, and expanding school-based behavioral and mental health services in collaboration with community partners such as the County of San Mateo, Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, Human Services Agency, local law enforcement agencies, and other groups.
