Environmental Youth Leadership Summit
The Environmental Youth Leadership Summit brings together sixth- to twelfth-grade student leaders across San Mateo County who are eager to make an environmental sustainability impact in their community. It educates and empowers students to take action and be part of creating a sustainable future. The summits also provide opportunities to collaborate, problem-solve, and network with like-minded students across the county.
The summit was held on Saturday, November 15, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM at the San Mateo County Office of Education in Redwood City! This year's theme, "One Earth, One Future: Youth Uniting for Sustainability," reflects the urgent need for collective action in the face of global environmental challenges and the powerful role young people play in shaping a sustainable future. It's meant to emphasize our shared responsibility to protect the planet and highlights the strength of youth voices coming together across communities. It's a call to action, collaboration, and hope because building a just, resilient future begins with the leadership of today's youth.

This summit is made possible by the generous financial support and sponsorship from Peninsula Clean Energy.

2025 Keynote Speakers
Dave Fork

Dave Fork is an inventor, engineer, and community leader who believes the best solutions for the planet often start small—like on two wheels. He is the Founder and President of the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange (SVBE), a non-profit community bike shop that diverts hundreds of bikes from landfills, teaches repair skills, and provides vital, sustainable transportation for the community. During his day job as a Staff Research Scientist at Google, Dave focuses on one of the most critical challenges of our time: adapting to extreme heat and climate change. He leads research using satellite data and advanced modeling to map the urban heat island effect, providing the information cities need to plant trees and protect vulnerable communities. Dave has a long history of making technology work for a better future. He spent years on projects to make solar power cheaper than coal and designed the intelligent power systems that feed reliable energy back into the grid. A prolific inventor, Dr. Fork holds over 80 issued US patents for everything from new micro-devices to solar technology. Dave holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Stanford University and degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester.
Colin Chu

Colin Chu is a senior at The Nueva School and an environmental activist. He is the founder of Homeless Heroes, a youth-led non-profit that addresses sustainability and homelessness by recovering food from schools and redirecting meals to homeless shelters and food banks. In addition to serving as the Co-Chair of the U.S. Youth Action Council for the United Nations Ocean Decade, he is a lobbyist and youth leader for policy advocacy at the local level through the San Mateo County Youth Commission. He is extremely passionate about championing action-driven change for marginalized and underrepresented communities, as well as conducting academic research as a means of driving meaningful change. He was recognized as the 2025 Sustainable San Mateo County Youth Sustainability Award recipient.
