Internships provide first-hand experience working with professionals in their work environment, giving the student opportunities to practice skills such as communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem solving.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Will be completing the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade by summer 2020.
  • Will be 16 years of age or older by June 12, 2020. Some internships require the student be at least 18 years of age. Look at descriptions for each individual internship prior to applying.
  • Live and go to a public school in San Mateo County.
  • Be available for the entire duration of the internship.

Students may apply for multiple internships on one application. Students should indicate internships of interest at the top of the application under "specific internship name."

Front Office for Dentists  Internship opportunities at dental offices across San Mateo County for 11th and 12th grade students. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Biotechnology Internships
REG Life Sciences REG Life Sciences offers a 4-8 week paid summer internships for a high school student. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
SciBac An 8-week biotechnology internship working on a microbiology project in the area of molecular biology, microbial cell culture, or tissue culture. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Karius An 8-week biotechnology internship working with a remarkable team of scientists at Karius. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Telomere Diagnostics This is a biotechnology internship opportunity that can start as early as April, 2019, or can only be for the summer. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Education Internships
San Mateo County Office of Education A 4-week paid summer internships for any high school student within the county. Student interns are placed in various departments within the county office, including Human Resources, The Stem Center, Early Childhood Education, and others. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Hospitality Internships
Focaccia Market Bakery Culinary Internship Culinary internship for 8-14 weeks offered during the Fall, Spring and Summer.Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Embassy Suites Four summer internships are offered in Breakfast Stations, Restaurant, Culinary, and Housekeeping. Interns must be 18 years old by the time they start the internship. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Business and Finance Internships
Focaccia Market Bakery Two Internships: 1. Marketing and social media internship for 8-14 weeks offered during the Fall, Spring and Summer. 2. Accounting internship for 8-14 weeks offered during Fall, Spring and Summer. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
Larry Pon, CPA (Spring semester 2019 internship only) Internship occurs mid January-April 15th, 2019 and learning basic office skills including assembling tax returns, photocopying, filing and data entry. Application due date is December 13th, 2019. No summer internship opportunity, spring semester only.
Berkshire Hathaway Internship opportunity in real estate at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in Redwood City. Application is due March 27, 2020.
Trade Internships
Front Office for Plumbers, Pipefitters, and HVACR Fitters Internship opportunities at plumbers, pipefitters, & HVACR offices across San Mateo County for 11th and 12th grade students. Summer internship application is due March 27, 2020.
