Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, California began providing more funding for expanded learning opportunities such as after school and summer enrichment programs to help students through sixth grade develop their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills and interests.
The County Office of Education supports San Mateo County school districts and community partners in developing high-quality expanded learning programs that provide a safe and supportive learning environment, actively engage students in learning and building skills, and develop youth leadership and voice with an equity lens.

Redwood City Creates a Model for Expanded Learning
Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, California began providing more funding for expanded learning opportunities such as after school and summer enrichment programs to help students through sixth grade develop their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills and interests. This additional funding allowed school districts in San Mateo County, such as the Redwood City School District (RCSD), to collaborate with community partners in offering unique, hands-on, engaging learning experiences that complement classroom learning.
