The Next Big Think
Thank you to the 2,200+ attendees of The Next Big Think, all 23 school districts who participated in some portion of the event, and each and every student who showcased their work at our first annual celebration of student achievement!
We had a blast learning from and with you and look forward to 2020!
Any questions regarding the 2019 event or the future of the 2020 event, please contact Robert Pronovost, SMCOE STEAM Director.
The STEM Fair
The San Mateo County Office of Education has hosted the STEM Fair for more than 30 years. Our goal is to create interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education and STEM careers, foster school-community cooperation in developing the scientific potential and communication skills of tomorrow’s leaders, and to publicly recognize the achievements of talented science students, grades 5-12, in San Mateo County. Click this link to visit the STEM Fair website and learn about past results!
Both visual and performing art pieces were exhibited throughout the Event! Click this link to visit the Visual and Performing Arts webpage for more information.
Our brand-new Districts Showcase was a celebration of the innovation and imagination of students across all San Mateo County public school districts. Every public school district was been invited to submit a project to the Districts Showcase. Projects highlighted included the upcoming TIDE Academy in Sequoia Union High School District, the Heal Project in Cabrillo Unified, and math, engineering, and science projects by the students of The Bayshore School.
In addition to the elements listed above, we had a makerspace run by Teeny Makerspace, a hackathon, multiple interactive art canvases, math activities, and 19 community organizations engaging students in hands-on activities.
