Expanded Learning in San Mateo County

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, California began providing more funding for expanded learning opportunities such as after school and summer enrichment programs to help students through sixth grade develop their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills and interests. 

The County Office of Education supports San Mateo County school districts and community partners in developing high-quality expanded learning programs that provide a safe and supportive learning environment, actively engage students in learning and building skills, and develop youth leadership and voice with an equity lens.

Free and Low-Cost Learning Activities for Families

InPlay is a nonprofit working with San Mateo County schools to offer you a free online search service with hundreds of local and affordable or free after-school and summer camp programs. The guide lists both in-person and online instructor-led activities.

Redwood City Creates a Model for Expanded Learning

Beginning in the 2021-2022 school year, California began providing more funding for expanded learning opportunities such as after school and summer enrichment programs to help students through sixth grade develop their academic, social, emotional, and physical skills and interests. This additional funding allowed school districts in San Mateo County, such as the Redwood City School District (RCSD), to collaborate with community partners in offering unique, hands-on, engaging learning experiences that complement classroom learning.
