Approximately 150 educators and administrators from twelve Northern California counties attended the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Rollout 6: Environmental Literacy Conference on October 24 and 25 hosted by SMCOE along with the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) and the K-12 Alliance at WestEd.

The two-day event highlighted the importance of fostering environmental literacy among our students, teachers, and administrators; modeled lessons that integrate environmental principles and concepts with the academic standards for all grade bands; and provided opportunities for school administrators to observe high-quality, phenomenon-based science instruction.

This year’s conference included inspiring speeches from several high school students who shared their passion for environmental activism. In the words of one student, "Teach me about climate change. Our generation is the most affected by this issue and we need to know how to solve it."
