San Mateo County, CA — San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee announced today that veteran educator Kristen Shouse will join the San Mateo County Office of Education as Associate Superintendent, Educational Services Division, effective June 6, 2022. Ms. Shouse currently serves as Assistant Superintendent, Secondary Education, in the Pajaro Valley Unified School District in Watsonville, California.

Ms. Shouse has a long and diverse history of serving students that aligns well with the County Office of Education’s priorities. Early in her career, she served as a Program Director with the YMCA and a Deputy Probation Counselor. Ms. Shouse then spent eleven years at the Gilroy Unified School District serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and Administrator of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction. Since leaving Gilroy, Ms. Shouse has served briefly as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at the San Benito County Office of Education in Hollister and Director of Student Services in the Paso Robles Joint Union School District before assuming her current role with the Pajaro Valley School District in 2018.

Ms. Shouse holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Education. She also successfully completed the Association of California School Administrators’ Superintendent Academy.

Ms. Shouse is recognized for her work to help students make great strides in their learning and academic life, including establishing a tutorial program that offered students support and motivation while improving their grades; an attendance program that raised attendance from 76 to 92 percent; and a fifth-year option that provided many students with the opportunity to earn a high school diploma as well as other innovative programs that increased students’ English Language proficiency and success in mathematics.

“I am thrilled to welcome Kris Shouse to the San Mateo County Office of Education’s leadership team,” shared Superintendent Magee. “Kris is an innovative leader with a proven track record of improving outcomes for all students.”

Ms. Shouse will round out the County Office of Education’s leadership team when she assumes the role of Associate Superintendent, Educational Services, a position currently held by Marco Chávez. Mr. Chávez will be promoted to Deputy Superintendent, Educational Services, on April 16, following the departure of Jeneé Littrell, the current Deputy Superintendent, who is relocating to San Diego to be closer to family.
