The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) offers support for California English Language Arts Standards and Framework implementation. ERWC Introductory Course

Our Introductory Course series are geared towards high school ELA teachers who have never been certified in the Expository Reading and Writing Course (ERWC). Our Update Course series are aimed towards high school ELA teachers who have previously been certified in the ERWC and need to be certified in the latest version (3.0) of the curriculum. Three (3) optional Cal State East Bay Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available to teachers participating in the ERWC Introductory Course Certification Workshop.

Update ERWC 3.0 Course

The third edition of the Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC 3.0) was launched in June 2019. This 12-hour workshop series provides a preview of the new edition exclusively for teachers who have been previously certified in the CSU ERWC at the high school level. (Certified teachers have attended 24 hours (four full sessions) of ERWC professional learning.)The update is designed to familiarize teachers with the following:

  • Revised ERWC curriculum for English language arts (ELA) course at grade 12
  • New ERWC ELA course at grade 11
  • Specific modules with integrated and designated English language development (ELD) at grades 9-12

California Dyslexia & Literacy - 2022–2023 Expert Webinar Series

Join us for a FREE expert webinar series hosted by the Sacramento County Office of Education, project lead for the California Dyslexia Initiative (CDI), in partnership with Glean Education. Learn more about identifying risk factors, setting up effective MTSS/RTI school systems to prevent reading difficulties, and delivering research-based instruction to support and remediate struggling learners and students with dyslexia.
