The San Mateo County Office of Education (SMCOE) supports schools and districts in starting and strengthening Genders and Sexualities Alliances (GSAs) to create a welcoming and safe school climate for youth who identify as LGBTQ+. SMCOE also supports educators in embedding LGBTQ+ history, social movements, and current events into their curriculum and instruction.

Youth Advocacy and Social Summit

The Youth Advocacy and Social Summit (YAASS) is an event organized to specifically to support the work of LGBTQ+ high school students and their allies In an effort to make all high schools safer and more inclusive. It aims to lead, inform, engage, and inspire all students in San Mateo County to be inclusive and supportive of all students.

Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) Open House

The GSA Open House supports GSA Coordinators in starting or strengthening their school's GSA. Attendees can network with other coordinators or school faculty and staff, hear from a youth panel sharing their experiences with GSA, and meet local providers that support LGBTQ Youth in San Mateo County. 

Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) Coordinator Meetings

SMCOE hosts monthly meetings for GSA Coordinators to network, share ideas, and execute county-wide events such as the GSA Open House and annual Youth Advocacy and Social Summit.
